Who We Are
Good Hope Baptist Church, a vibrant congregation affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, proudly celebrated its 175th anniversary in October 2017. Nestled in the heart of our community, our church has grown from a humble log structure in 1842 to a landmark sandstone building that continues to serve as a spiritual home for over 200 active members.
Our history is deeply interwoven with the community. The church, originally named Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, is the oldest church in the West Cullman Baptist Association and significantly influenced the naming of the city of Good Hope itself. Our origins are marked by resilience and fellowship, from surviving a devastating fire in 1866 to constructing the current rock church in 1942 with collective volunteer labor.
Throughout the years, Good Hope Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of faith and community service. Our mission, "To know Him and make Him known," established in 1942, still guides us today. We are committed to a variety of ministries that touch lives both within our congregation and beyond. These include youth programs, children's activities, and community outreach efforts like the backpack ministry for local school children and vibrant gatherings for our senior members.
Significant moments in our church’s timeline include hosting the first meeting of the newly-formed Cullman County Baptist Association in 1883, and continuous expansion with new buildings to accommodate our growing family and services. The story of our church is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about the generations of families who have been part of this community, contributing to its spiritual life and fellowship.
